Heart and Vascular Center of Excellence

Most Americans are familiar with heart disease and recognize that it is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the American Vascular Association, knowing about vascular disease outside the heart is also important as it is also a leading cause of heart disease and death.

As a part of our Center of Excellence, Sonora Regional Medical Center is proud to offer cardiovascular health care programs designed for disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. We offer a highly trained staff, and work with a number of excellent partners in and around the Sierra Foothills. We can help you with:

  • Coronary artery disease
  • Heart failure
  • Heart rhythm disorders
  • Chest pain
  • Stroke
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Varicose veins
  • Endovascular care
  • Vascular surgery
  • Wound care
  • Other problems related to blocked or narrowed vessels

Prevention

Sonora Regional Medical Center provides many programs to help you prevent heart and circulatory diseases. CHIP or Coronary Health Improvement Project, is an affordable, 30-day lifestyle education program with thousands of graduates worldwide. Partnering with our faith community, CHIP is offered locally and includes personal time with experts, specialists and support groups.

For seniors, we offer a free OakPlus Wellness Program for senior adults, ages 65 and older. It includes invitations to monthly wellness seminars and special events.

It’s a known fact that you increase your chances of heart and vascular disease if you’re a smoker. We partner with community providers to offer a seven-week Tobacco Cessation program that can help you kick the habit and live healthier.

Diagnosis

With heart and vascular disease so prevalent in the U.S., doctors, researchers and technologists continue to sharpen the process of diagnosis. We offer everything you need within our Center so you don’t need to travel to get an expert opinion or a state-of-the-art test. For example, Sonora Regional Medical Center has the only cardiac catheterization lab in the Sierra foothills. We also offer minimally-invasive diagnostic procedures.

There are many ways to detect heart disease and vascular problems. They include:

  • Vascular ultrasound
  • Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA)
  • Magnetic Resonance Angiogram (MRA)
  • Routine and specialized blood work
  • Ankle blood pressure monitoring
  • Stress tests
  • Echocardiograms
  • Nuclear medicine

Treatment

At Sonora Regional Medical Center, we take a collaborative approach to treating cardiovascular disease. Our cardiologists, vascular surgeons, nurses, pulmonologists, and radiologists work as a team with partners who specialize in more complicated areas of heart disease. We can help you with:

Endovascular care
Vascular surgery
Carotid Endarterectomy
Sclerotherapy (a treatment for varicose and spider veins)
Ablation (a relatively non-invasive procedure that involves inserting catheters – narrow, flexible wires – into a blood vessel, often through a site in the groin or neck, and winding the wire up into the heart)
Vein stripping
Wound care

Recovery

Today, living a full and productive life with heart disease is very achievable. Sonora Regional Medical Center’s Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is designed to help you regain confidence and quality of life through exercise, education, good nutrition, lifestyle modification, stress management, medication, and weight management.

We also offer physical therapy and home care, if you need it.

Community Home Care provides you with professional medical care in the comfort and convenience of your home. Community Home Care’s skilled healthcare team is committed to your recovery. Nurses are on call 24 hours a day.

Whether you’ve had heart disease or a vascular condition, you’ll find an atmosphere of safety, camaraderie, encouragement and success at Sonora Regional Medical Center.
