Pharmacy
Welcome to Sonora Regional Medical Center’s pharmacy services. We follow the mission and values of Sonora Regional Medical Center in providing quality pharmacy services that meet the needs of our community. We continually evaluate the services we provide and look for additional opportunities that will bring value to our patients and customers.
Although we are located in a rural Sierra foothill community, our integrated health care system provides a wide range of services. Unique Features/Special Projects
The services provided by Sonora Regional Medical Center pharmacy department encompass all aspects of drug therapy, including procurement, dispensing, education, administration, monitoring and adjustment. A staff of more than 20 professionals—including registered pharmacists, registered pharmacy technicians, registered nurses and clerical personnel—provide services through the following sub-departments:
Anticoagulation Clinic
The anticoagulation clinic provides monitoring, dosing and education for specialty drug therapy such as warfarin (Coumadin). Physicians make referrals to the clinic. The goal of the clinic is to assist the physician in optimizing the drug therapy and providing education to the patient.
Community Pharmacy (Retail - Outpatient)
Our retail pharmacy provides prescription services for employees of Sonora Regional Medical Center, outpatients, members of the hospital's OakPlus Senior Wellness Program and the general public. Please call for price quotes and information about our senior discount plan.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
SNF (Skilled Nursing Facility) Consulting
In addition to providing medications to the residents of two skilled nursing facilities, one of the staff pharmacists is designated as a SNF consultant pharmacist. Duties include monthly drug therapy regimen reviews, staff in-services, participation in patient care planning, and compliance with state and federal regulations relating to pharmaceutical services.
Home Infusion Service
A variety of services are provided to patients at their home. These treatments are usually coordinated with a home care nursing agency such as Community Home Care. Some services provided include intravenous drugs, intravenous solutions, chemotherapy, supplies and enteral feedings. Patients are referred by their physician or practitioner.
Inpatient (Acute Care) Pharmacy
The inpatient pharmacy at Sonora Regional Medical Center provides pharmaceutical care to acute care patients, including medication dispensing and distribution, management of drug therapy by protocol, and clinical pharmacy and consultative services. In addition, the inpatient pharmacy provides an IV admixture program using a class 100,000 clean room for inpatients, patients of the ambulatory infusion center and home infusion patients, prescription medications to the SNF facility residents, outpatient prescription services when our retail pharmacy is closed, and medication distribution and control for 14 physician practice sites in a two county area.
Hours: 7 a.m. to midnight (seven days a week).
Inpatient Pharmacy Position
The pharmacist works under limited supervision while providing pharmaceutical services for inpatients, emergency department patients, skilled nursing facility patients, employees, home infusion patients, affiliated physician practices and outpatients of Sonora Regional Medical Center. The pharmacist will work in close conjunction with the nursing and medical staffs by acting as a resource person for various kinds of pharmaceutical data. Pharmaceutical care is provided through drug therapy dosing and monitoring based on medical staff-approved protocols.
Responsibilities include participation in The Joint Commission's standards of compliance for pharmaceutical services, and the development, collection and organization of continuous quality improvement activities. The pharmacist participates in patient, caregiver and staff education relating to drug therapy.
Scope of practice requires the pharmacist to be responsible for the assessment, treatment and care of patients of all ages, including infants, children, adolescents, adults and seniors. The pharmacist possesses knowledge to interpret patient's self-report or cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturation process. Position requires that treatment of patients is individualized and reflects an understanding of the range of treatment needs for each patient.
