Following the example of Jesus, our mission is to alleviate human suffering through physical, mental and spiritiual healing. As such, we seek staff and care providers who are supportive of our mission and can provide this level of care with our patients.
Sonora Regional Medical Center operates a large network of 14 primary care practices in Sonora and five other outlying communities consisting of 22 family and internal medicine physicians. The network is an attractive option for physicians wishing to avoid much of the cost and hassle of setting up and managing a practice. Network physicians receive a regular base pay, quarterly productivity bonuses, malpractice insurance and benefits reimbursement.
Non-network physicians can receive an extremely competitive income guarantee, and moving and practice start-up assistance.
Sonora is the regional hub of Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties, still known as a vacation destination for recreation and tourism. Attractions include numerous lakes and reservoirs for water sports; mountains for hiking, skiing and camping; historic towns which were established during the California gold rush; and the beautiful Yosemite National Park. With a service area population of 76,000, the hospital is three hours east of San Francisco and one hour from Modesto and Stockton.
In 2004, Sonora Community Hospital became Sonora Regional Medical Center when we opened the doors to our brand new medical facility. Our new name reflects the hospital's advancement from a small rural hospital to a medical center which serves all or part of three counties, boasts an impressive array of current technology and serves a medical staff which is larger and more diverse than most communities our size.
With an excellent medical community and no managed care, Sonora is a wonderful place to practice medicine. To discuss these opportunities, contact:

The Doctor Is Always In
Last year, Sonora Regional Medical Center joined the growing number of hospitals across the country that have added specialized acute care physicians, or hospitalists, in a continuing effort to provide patients with the highest quality of care after they are admitted to the hospital. Hospitalists are internal medicine and family medicine physicians whose sole responsibility is to care for patients from admission until discharge.
Sierra Emergency Medical Group was given the opportunity to create a hospitalist program after the closure of Tuolumne General Hospital. Presently, the Sonora Regional Hospitalist Program provides inpatient care for unassigned patients, patients of the Forest Road Health and Wellness Center’s Primary Care Clinic, and patients cared for on an outpatient basis by the Sierra Internal Medicine group. The hospitalists are available for admissions, discharges and for providing patient care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When a patient is admitted to the hospital through the emergency department and does not have a primary care physician of their own, the hospitalist is assigned to their care. Because hospitalists specialize in inpatient care, they are experienced in managing acute health problems such as congestive heart failure or pneumonia, which are common among hospitalized patients. According to the Society of Hospital Medicine, research over the past 10 years has shown not only that hospitalists contribute to increase patient satisfaction, but that the hospitalist care decreases the length of time patients spend in the hospital, patient mortality rates and hospital costs.
Please direct any patient-care issues related to the hospitalist program to Elizabeth Brandenburg, MD, medical director for the hospitalist program. If you have questions regarding the Sonora Regional Hospitalist Program, please address them to Bob Uslander, MD, through a message with:
